Growth curves

In the first few years of their life, your child will grow very quickly. Growth curves enable you to track the development of your baby’s weight and height step by step, and are an excellent way for the doctor to monitor their health. It is necessary to record a new value each month.

The coloured corridor corresponds to the values most commonly encountered internationally (WHO, 2006)

For each month, note the date of weighing or measuring along with the corresponding figure.
Weights should be expressed in kg with a point, e.g.: “3.5”
Heights are to be entered in cm, e.g.: “55”

> If the measurement is above the curve this means their height or weight is greater than 97% of children of their age. If you are unsure, do not hesitate to contact your doctor.

> If baby’s height/weight is between the 75% and 97% curves, they are situated above the average for other children of their age.

> If baby’s height/weight is between the 25% and 75% curves, they are situated within the average for other children of their age.

> If baby’s height/weight is between the 3% and 25% curves, they are situated lower than the average compared to other children of their age.

> If baby’s height/weight is lower than 3% of other children of their age, you should consult their doctor.
